Shehuo festivities bring folk culture to life in Urumqi
A festive atmosphere recently engulfed Urumqi, the capital of Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, as the city kicked off its Shehuo celebrations — a vibrant display of traditional folk culture brought to life through street performances and rituals.
The opening ceremony featured 10 Shehuo troupes, including teams from each district and county in Urumqi and an invited troupe from another city, showcasing the diverse regional styles of this ancient performance art.
Throughout the event period, various districts and counties will set up talent show stages and folk culture destinations in local scenic spots, commercial zones, parks, and squares. Activities, including Shehuo flash mobs and folk culture exhibitions, will be organized to encourage public participation.
