China urges US to rescind unilateral tariffs
China urges the United States to rescind its unilateral tariff measures imposed on trading partners, stressing that there are “no winners in trade wars” and that “protectionism leads nowhere”, the Ministry of Commerce said on Monday.
Beijing’s comments came after the US Supreme Court’s ruling?to strike down certain?President Donald Trump’s sweeping tariffs.
The US unilateral actions, including so-called “reciprocal” tariffs and fentanyl-related tariffs—not only violate international trade rules but also contravene US domestic law, and serve the interests of no party, a spokesperson with the ministry said.
“Facts have repeatedly shown that both China and the US stand to benefit from cooperation and lose from confrontation,” the spokesperson said.
“We’ve noted?that the US is reportedly preparing alternative measures, such as trade investigations, in an effort to maintain tariffs on trading partners. China will closely monitor the situation and take firm actions to safeguard its legitimate interests,” the spokesperson added.
