US Homeland Security Department enters partial shutdown due to lack of funding

WASHINGTON - The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) entered a partial shutdown as temporary funding for the department expired at the end of Friday.
The Senate on Thursday failed to advance a funding bill for the DHS, as Republicans and Democrats did not reach an agreement on reforming immigration enforcement regulations, following two fatal shootings by federal law enforcement officers in the city of Minneapolis in Minnesota.
The Congress has recently passed a funding package to fund multiple US federal agencies for the remainder of the fiscal year 2026, yet the DHS only received a two-week continuing resolution at current funding levels.
