Former Inner Mongolia chairwoman expelled from CPC for severe disciplinary violations

Wang Lixia, the former chairwoman of the Inner Mongolia autonomous regional government, has been expelled from the Communist Party of China and removed from her public office due to severe breaches of Party discipline and national laws, as announced by China's top anti-corruption bodies on Thursday.

Wang came under investigation in August 2025, conducted by the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision. The investigation revealed that Wang neglected her professional responsibilities, superficially complying with central decisions and directives while actually pursuing her own agenda.

She was found to have frequented private clubs, accepted banquets and travel arrangements that could compromise her impartiality, and improperly borrowed vehicles from individuals under her management. These actions were attributed to her being driven by "vanity" and "a pursuit of hedonism", according to the investigation.

The investigation also uncovered that Wang sought benefits for others in personnel selection and appointments, accepting money and assets in return. She accepted cash and gifts and had others pay for expenses she should have covered herself.

Additionally, Wang interfered in case handling, failed to manage her family properly, and used her positions to gain substantial profits in exchange for securing benefits for others in project approvals and contracting.

The commissions pointed out that Wang had seriously violated Party discipline and committed significant job-related offenses, with suspicions of bribery. In accordance with Party regulations and laws, the decision has been made to expel her from the Party and public office, confiscate her illicit gains, and refer her case to prosecutors for further investigation.

The 61-year-old native of Liaoning province began her career in September 1985 and joined the Party in December 1992. Before moving to Inner Mongolia in October 2016, she held various positions in Shaanxi province. She became the chairwoman of the Inner Mongolia autonomous regional government in September 2021.
