Beijing has undergone dramatic improvements since 2017's revamped development plans

Beijing has demolished more than 238 million square meters of illegal constructions and reclaimed over 275 square kilometers of land since the country rectified the Chinese capital's overall development plan in 2017, said Zhang Wei, Party secretary of the Beijing Commission of Planning and Natural Resources, on Wednesday.

Since 2017, Beijing has de-clustered the city's industrial burden by moving some industrial projects to suburban areas or nearby provinces and relocating administrative offices into the new municipal administrative center in Tongzhou district. A number of State-owned enterprises, universities, schools, and hospitals set up branches in Xiong'an New Area, supporting its development.

"Currently, over 92 percent of Beijing's residents live within 500 meters of green spaces, and the city now boasts 1,136 parks and hosts more than 1,100 ecological and cultural events annually," said Lin Jinwen, deputy director of the Beijing Forestry and Parks Bureau.
