CNPC hits milestone in CCUS project

China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) has achieved a major milestone in the localization of key equipment for its Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) projects, moving from initial successes to a complete domestic replacement of critical systems, the company announced.

The breakthrough is centered on CNPC's Jilin oilfield, where the country's first domestically produced 100,000 cubic meter high-pressure injection compressor has been operating in a safe and stable manner for over 10,000 hours as of Wednesday.

This successful application marks a significant milestone for CNPC in overcoming bottleneck constraints for crucial equipment in the cutting-edge green technology of CCUS, reinforcing the nation's push for technological self-reliance, it said.

CCUS is a core climate mitigation technology that involves capturing carbon dioxide and injecting it underground for enhanced oil recovery and permanent storage.

Further accelerating the pace of localization, the Jilin oilfield development team has successfully developed Asia's first full-chain CCUS-specific compressor unit and China's first domestic set of simultaneous water-gas injection metering devices for carbon dioxide enhanced oil recovery.

The metering devices have demonstrated an accuracy of over 95 percent for the dual-medium injection, it said.
