October crackdown targets misconduct, hedonism among officials

A total of 25,316 cases of violations of the central eight-point regulation on improving work style were investigated and handled nationwide in October, according to a statement issued Wednesday by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission.

A total of 32,544 people were criticized, educated, or disciplined, including 22,741 who received Party discipline or government administrative sanctions.

In terms of violation types, 10,561 cases involved inaction, misconduct, or perfunctory work in performing duties, serving economic and social development, and ecological and environmental protection—seriously hindering high-quality development. This accounted for 84.1 percent of all formalistic and bureaucratic violations investigated in the month.

Among hedonistic and extravagant violations, cases of illegal acceptance of valuable specialties, gifts, and cash accounted for 55.4 percent, cases of irregular dining and wining for 22.4 percent, and irregular distribution of subsidies or benefits for 11.7 percent.

In terms of official rank, one case involved provincial-ministerial level officials, 96 involved prefectural-city level officials, and 1,354 involved county-level officials. Notably, violations by township-level and lower-ranking officials reached 23,865, accounting for 94.3 percent of the total cases.
