Commerce minister urges US to increase areas of cooperation

China's top commerce official expressed concern about several issues during a meeting in Beijing on Thursday with David Perdue, the United States ambassador to China.

Commerce Minister Wang Wentao discussed unilateral US tariffs, export controls, two-way investment restrictions, visa reviews, and restrictive clauses in economic and trade agreements with third parties during the meeting.

Wang also spoke about China's position on Nexperia, a Chinese-owned semiconductor company based in the Netherlands, and exchanged views with Perdue on the implementation of outcomes from bilateral economic and trade consultations, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Commerce.

Wang said China is willing to work with the US to implement important consensuses reached by the two heads of state, and said the two countries should foster a correct perception that China and the US can coexist and achieve win-win outcomes.

It is essential to maintain the bilateral economic and trade consultation mechanisms and address sources of instability in economic and trade relations, Wang added.

By working to shorten the list of issues and extend the list of cooperation areas, both nations can inject more stability and certainty into their respective economies, as well as the world economy at large, he added.
