Carrie Lam: 'One country, two systems' essential for Hong Kong

Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor delivered a speech at Nankai University on Friday, emphasizing that upholding and improving the principle of "one country, two systems" is an undertaking essential to ensuring Hong Kong's long-term prosperity and stability.

In her lecture, Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor said "one country, two systems" is a pioneering principle that has successfully maintained Hong Kong's prosperity and stability. She stressed that Hong Kong will steadfastly uphold and implement the principle of "one country, two systems" and demonstrate to the world its vibrant vitality.

Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, the fifth chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China and the first woman to hold this position, has served in 20 different public roles throughout her 42-year public service career. With the support of the central government, she led Hong Kong in addressing dual challenges to national security and the COVID-19 pandemic, steering the region from chaos to stability.

She delivered a speech titled "Upholding and Improving the Practice of 'One Country, Two Systems' in Hong Kong" at the opening ceremony of the 12th international competence youth talent training camp organized by Nankai University.

Nankai University has consistently developed the international competence youth talent training camp as a flagship program. To date, 11 sessions have been held, training over 2,700 participants.

Nankai University President Chen Yulu emphasized that the university will continue to deepen cooperation with Hong Kong universities in areas such as talent cultivation, technological innovation, and think tank construction.

He expressed hope that students would take the training camp as a new starting point to contribute their youthful energy to advancing the steady and long-term implementation of "one country, two systems" and supporting Hong Kong's better integration into the national development landscape.
