Zheng defeats Samsonova to reach French Open quarterfinals

PARIS -- China's Zheng Qinwen advanced to the quarterfinals at the French Open for the first time by beating Russia's Liudmila Samsonova 7-6(5), 1-6, 6-3 on Sunday.

The 22-year-old Paris Olympic singles champion continued her strong run at Roland Garros and will face the winner between top seed Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus and Amanda Anisimova of the United States in the next round.
