No sour grapes found in award-winning Chinese wines

The Wynn Signature Chinese Wine Awards returned to Macao on Friday, celebrating the finest in Chinese winemaking with a prestigious ceremony hosted by the exclusive lifestyle brand Wynn Signature.

The event, supported by the Macao Government Tourism Office, brought over 200 wine experts, leading Chinese wineries, industry professionals, international media, and wine lovers from around the world.

Held as part of the "Culture City of East Asia 2025 — Macao, China" program, the event highlighted the special administrative region's role in fostering cultural exchange and supporting the growing Chinese wine industry. Immediately following the ceremony, Wynn announced a global campaign to promote the award-winning wines across its acclaimed restaurants and international network.

Ningxia Helan Mountain Renyiyuan Winery emerged as the biggest winner of the night. Its Renyiyuan Tao Cabernet Sauvignon 2020 swept several top honors, including Best Wine of China, Best Red Wine, Best of Ningxia, and Best Cabernet Sauvignon. Winemaker Kai Kang became the first recipient of the newly introduced Best Young Winemaker award.

Other major winners included Helan Mountain Special Reserve Chardonnay 2021, which received Best White Wine and Best Chardonnay. Domaine Franco-Chinois Reserve Marselan 2012 won Best of North China and Best Marselan while Tiansai Sparkling Wine 2017 was recognized as Best of Xinjiang and Best Sparkling Wine.

Dignitaries at the ceremony included Director of MGTO Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, acting President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau Cheang Kai Meng, acting President of the Commerce and Investment Promotion Institute Elaine Wong, and Guo Xiaohui of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao SAR. Wynn leadership was also present, including President and Executive Director of Wynn Macau Linda Chen and COO Frederic Luvisutto.

Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes praised the awards for its role in promoting Macao's "tourism +" development model. "The 2025 Wynn Signature Chinese Wine Awards exemplifies Macao's commitment to promoting diverse 'tourism +' and fostering integrated development across tourism and the related sectors," she said. "We aim to attract a broader spectrum of visitor markets, bringing sustainable benefits to Macao."

Wynn's Linda Chen added, "This year, we are extremely honored that the Wynn Signature Chinese Wine Awards have been officially included in the program of the Culture City of East Asia 2025 — Macao, China. This honor will further strengthen Macao's strategic positioning as a platform for international exchange where Chinese culture is the mainstream and diverse cultures coexist." She emphasized Wynn's ongoing commitment to advancing Chinese wine on the world stage through events, master classes, and cultural storytelling.
