'Macau Pass' makes public transport hassle-free in over 300 mainland cities

Macau Pass - China T-Union, an mCard covering public transportation in over 300 cities in the Chinese mainland and applicable to nearly 30,000 terminal consumption scenarios in the Macao Special Administrative Region, started its official sale on Dec 4 and is available via multiple channels.

The mCard was launched by Macau Pass under the support of the Ministry of Transport of the People's Republic of China and the Transport Bureau of the Macao SAR.

Sun Ho, chairman and CEO of Macau Pass, said the launch of the mCard further promotes the interconnectivity between Macao and the mainland and reflects the mission to promote smart city construction and assist in the integration of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

"This card is the result of the exclusive cooperation between Macau Pass and the China T-Union system, integrating world-class innovative technologies, and helping Macao better integrate into the national development," he added.

A Macao resident, surnamed Luo, said he intends to buy a Macau Pass - China T-Union mCard for his family for its convenient service of "taking public transportation hassle-free in the Chinese mainland and the Macao SAR with one card".

He said, "This card can be used by the whole family, and it is especially convenient for the elderly. After retirement, my parents often travel to the mainland, but paying for the local public transport is a hassle for them since they aren't familiar with electronic payments."

However, the mCard is more convenient since it can be topped up in Macao, and family members can also help top it up using the MPay app ("MPay"). Moreover, it can also be used for daily consumption in Macao, covering transportation, retail, catering and entertainment, he added.

The mCard also features an MOP e-purse and an RMB e-purse, meeting the payment needs of different scenarios in Macao and the mainland. The MOP e-purse is applicable to local consumption in Macao, while the RMB e-purse, designed for public transportation on the mainland, can have a stored value limit of 1,000 yuan ($140) and can be used on public transportation in over 300 cities that support the China T-Union system.

The mCard started its sale on Dec 4 at MOP 68 and is available for purchase through various channels. Online channels include mCoin and mPass platforms, while offline channels include Macau Pass Customer Service Centers, mPass service stations and all 7-11 convenience stores across Macao.

With the growing trend of cross-border travel, Macau Pass has also upgraded bus terminals to support the China T-Union system and the Hong Kong Octopus card, making public transportation in Macao more convenient.
