US advisor talks climate policy with China's environment minister

China is willing to further enhance dialogue and communication with the United States and deepen practical cooperation, as they work together with other parties to advance multilateral climate efforts and support the successful convening of the upcoming COP29 United Nations climate change conference.

Huang Runqiu, China’s Minister of Ecology and Environment, made the remarks on Thursday while meeting John Podesta, senior advisor to the US president for international climate policy, who was visiting China from Wednesday to Friday, according to a media release from the Ministry of Ecology and Environment.

The minister also noted positive outcomes in policy dialogues and practical cooperation on climate change between the two sides, since the establishment of a China-US climate envoy dialogue mechanism in 2021, following consensus reached by the two countries’ leaders.

Podesta provided an overview of US climate policies and actions during the meeting, which was also participated by the US Ambassador to China, Nicholas Burns, the release said.

Formerly known as the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, COP29 is scheduled to last from Nov 11 to 22 in Baku, Azerbaijan.
