Majority of auditing problems from 2022 have been rectified

Ninety-two percent of auditing problems discovered in 2022 have been rectified as of September this year, with more than 2,540 people held accountable, according to a report being deliberated by Chinese lawmakers.

In order to implement the rectification, over 1,600 regulations and rules have also been formulated or optimized, Hou Kai, auditor-general of the National Audit Office, said while submitting the 2022 audit rectification report to the ongoing session of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, China's top legislature, for review on Tuesday.

"A few institutional problems that were not conducive to reform, development and economic and social stability have been resolved," he said.

Among those problems rectified, some researchers whose achievements were found to have been falsified, have been criticized by the Ministry of Science and Technology. The ministry has reported to their higher-level departments and revoked their qualification of participating in national science and technology projects for a certain period.

In response to the problem of indiscriminate issuance of certificates by some appraisal and evaluation agencies, 100,800 vocational skills certificates issued were recalled or canceled for the violation of regulations.

Although many problems have been corrected, Hou said that the effort in rectification should not be weakened as some complicated problems need much more time to rectify while deepening relevant reforms.

While calling for improving systems or regulations to solve problems from the root, he also urged relevant departments to make a timetable to complete the rectification.
