Annual dual carbon forum witnesses Shenzhen's green commitment

The 2023 Carbon Peak and Carbon Neutrality Forum kicked off recently at Shenzhen's international low-carbon emission air dome exhibition hall in Longgang district, the largest of its kind worldwide.

Over four days of group discussions and conferences, prominent attendees in sustainable research and development, including leading scientists, government representatives, entrepreneurs, international organizations, and experts, gathered in Shenzhen to share their achievements in addressing climate change and dual carbon goals.

At the opening ceremony, the forum commenced with the official release of Shenzhen's annual green and low-carbon development report. The report focused on top-level design, technological innovation, industrial upgrades, energy management, sustainable transportation systems, green building, ecological environment, and cooperation in Shenzhen's green and low-carbon efforts throughout 2023.

On the following day, representatives from Uzbekistan shared innovative practices in low-carbon development, discussing collaboration opportunities between China and Central Asia in constructing zero-carbon cities and promoting green development. Experts and scholars from various countries, including Germany and Denmark, delivered keynote speeches from international perspectives, exploring implementation paths for carbon neutrality in different types of cities worldwide, and covering topics such as architecture, transportation, industry, power, and spatial planning.

The forum also invited business operators to share their insights, concentrating on the development trends of the green and low-carbon industry chain. A total of 168 domestic and international enterprises — including Huawei, BYD, CATL, State Grid Corp of China, SAP and Siemens, among others — showcased their innovative achievements and applications in fields such as green energy storage, efficient energy conservation, and green and low-carbon services.

As a crucial platform for China to exchange experiences in green development with the rest of the world, the Carbon Peak and Carbon Neutrality Forum underscores Shenzhen's and the country's commitment to pursuing dual carbon goals and sustainable development.
