He University inspires Ghanaian student's vision-restoring medical center

Ghanaian student Nathaniel Yaw Oppong, who studied in China, has returned home to establish a medical center focused on restoring vision for local patients.

The center, called HE-NAT, performs cataract surgeries to help patients regain their sight and also provides training opportunities for local doctors, with the goal of improving healthcare in the region.

Inspired by He Wei, the founder of He University, Nathaniel named the center HE-NAT as a tribute.

He University, opened in 1999, is one of the modern and well-endowed universities authorized by the Ministry of Education of China to offer undergraduate, masters and doctoral (PhD) programs. It is situated within the Shenyang Mt. Qipan Scenery and Tourism Development Zone.

The Belt and Road Ophthalmologist Training Program, led by China's Ministry of Commerce, aims to address the shortage of eye doctors in countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative. The program focuses on equipping young ophthalmologists from these countries with improved diagnostic, treatment, and surgical skills.
