Around 2,000 delegates to attend national women's congress

Nearly 1,800 delegates and 90 specially invited members from Hong Kong and Macao will attend China's 13th National Women's Congress in Beijing, the All-China Women's Federation told a news conference on Saturday.

From Monday through Thursday, 1,793 representatives and 90 specially invited delegates will attend the congress, the federation said, adding that all preparations for the event are in place.

The congress is convened every five years in China.

According to the federation, the drafting of documents for the congress, which started in February, focused on addressing theoretical and practical issues related to women's development.

The final report to the congress and the draft amendment to the constitution of the All-China Women's Federation will be reviewed at the congress.

The representatives selected for the congress represent various fields, including industry, agriculture, commerce, science and technology, education, healthcare and press and publishing.

The proportion of grassroots representatives has significantly increased, accounting for 69.2 percent.

There are representatives from all levels of women's federations, including 96 from grassroots organizations at the township level or below, representing 5.3 percent, an increase of 0.8 percentage points compared to the 12th National Women's Congress.

The average age of the delegates is 47.7, with the oldest being 81 and the youngest 19.

Notably, 5.1 percent of the delegates are those working in the scientific and technology sector, an increase of 1.2 percentage points, the federation said.
