The Beijing Municipal Administration for Market Regulation has reported that from 2019 to now, they have settled 1,069 cases related to unfair competition and imposed fines totaling 1.5 billion yuan ($205.47 million).

Beijing has been promoting fair competition, which involves the removal of regulations and practices that hinder fair competition, addressing both newly emerging issues and those that have existed for some time. Establishing an environment that is friendly to fair competition is a key precondition for ensuring impartial regulation. By focusing on this aspect, Beijing is indeed tackling a vital component of promoting fair competition.

One common complaint about unfair competition involves unauthorized fees imposed on businesses. In 2023 alone, the administration inspected close to 300 fee-charging entities and recovered over 4.1 billion yuan in fees. The move benefited more than 13,000 market entities, including nearly 12,000 small and microsized enterprises and individual businesses.

Promoting fair competition also requires timely correction and regulation of unfair competition practices. In May, the administration initiated a special law enforcement campaign to deal with unfair competition.

Key focal points of this campaign include cracking down on illegal practices such as commercial bribery. This not only benefits the creation of a fair competitive environment in the digital economy and pharmaceutical sectors but also contributes to fostering a healthy consumer environment.

As Beijing strides toward new development goals, its continuous efforts to construct a fair competition environment are expected to further enhance its business environment, investment vitality, and innovation capabilities, opening up a new chapter in its high-quality development.
