Event encourages Taiwan investment in mainland

The city government of Guangzhou, Guangdong province, will always uphold the concept of "one family on both sides of the Taiwan Strait" and provide the highest quality services, most favorable policies and best environment for investors and business representatives from the island, an official said.

Wang Shitong, a member of the Standing Committee of the Guangzhou Committee of the Communist Party of China, said the city aims to support and assist Taiwan enterprises and compatriots to achieve high-quality development in the southern metropolis.

Wang was speaking at the 2023 Guangzhou Taiwan Economic and Trade Forum, which was held in Guangzhou on Tuesday.

"Construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the deepening of cooperation between Guangdong and the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions has provided myriad business opportunities for compatriots from Taiwan," he said.

"Investing in Guangzhou has reached a prime, opportune moment," he added.

Wang said he hope entrepreneurs from Taiwan will take the forum as an opportunity to conduct in-depth investigations, strengthen exchanges and cooperation to further explore investment and business opportunities in Guangzhou and share the city's development achievements.

In addition to keynote speeches from senior officials, business representatives and experts, the event featured business environment promotion, interactive exchanges and in-person visits and inspections.

More than 200 government officials, business executives, experts and scholars from the Chinese mainland, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao participated in the forum, which aimed to build a platform for expanding economic ties, exchanges and cooperation.

It is also expected to help add energy and vitality to cross-Strait industrial integration and assist enterprises from Taiwan in expanding to Guangzhou, organizers said.

Guangzhou has so far approved more than 4,000 Taiwan-funded projects, with a total investment of nearly $28 billion, making it a prime destination for Taiwan compatriots to invest, start up a business, work and live.
