The Chinese mainland strongly opposes the signing of any agreement with sovereignty implications or official nature between the United States and the Taiwan region of China, a spokeswoman said on Friday.
Zhu Fenglian, a spokeswoman for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, made the remarks in response to the first batch of agreements signed between the Democratic Progressive Party authorities of Taiwan and the US under the "US-Taiwan Initiative on 21st Century Trade" on Thursday.
The DPP disregarded the interests of Taiwan's enterprises and people, and pursued so-called "achievements" in its relations with the US, Zhe said, adding that, "Such actions are unpopular and will harm both Taiwan and itself."
