LinkedIn to phase out China local jobs app

LinkedIn, a California-based professional networking platform provider, has announced that it will phase out its local jobs app in China.

The company said it will shift its China focus to assisting companies operating in China to find, hire, and upskill international talent and market their products and services overseas.

LinkedIn said it has decided to phase out the local jobs app InCareer in China by August 9, 2023, and reduce the size of its team in China.

In a letter to all LinkedIn employees, the company's CEO Ryan Roslansky said InCareer "encountered fierce competition and a challenging macroeconomic climate".

Roslansky said the company will convene an all-hands meeting with its China-based colleagues to "discuss the implications of these changes, including the discontinuation of product and engineering teams in China and the downsizing of corporate, sales, and marketing functions". 

The new move, together with the announced changes to Linkedin's Global Business Organization, will result in a reduction of 716 jobs, the company said.

Roslansky said in the letter that the move to close roles for employees was aimed at streamlining the firm's operation.
