Chinese elements shine at Qatar World Cup

From manufacturing, brand marketing to cultural derivatives, Chinese elements abound both on and off the field of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, the Shanghai Securities News reported on Monday.

China Railway Construction Corporation designed and built one of the Qatar World Cup's main stadiums, Lusail Stadium, which is the largest and most advanced one among professional soccer stadiums built by Chinese enterprises. In addition, Chinese firm Unilumin is the provider of the LED big screen for the World Cup.

The Al-Qasar 800-megawatt photovoltaic plant designed and built by the Power Construction Corporation of China has been put into operation, providing green energy to the World Cup. China Energy Engineering Corporation and China Gezhouba Group took part in constructing the super large impounding reservoir, offering clear drinking water to the World Cup.

China made vehicles provide shuttle service to venues of the World Cup. Two A-share listed firms have provided more than 3,000 cars for the public transport during the World Cup. Also, all 888 new energy vehicles serving the competition are from Chinese company Yutong, accounting for 25 percent of the total vehicles in operation for the game.

Yiwu Sports Goods Association estimates, "Made in Yiwu" has accounted for nearly 70 percent of the World Cup's peripheral goods market share, from flags for the Qatar World Cup round of 32 to ornaments and throw pillows.

According to Alibaba, during the international Singles Day shopping spree, data from its cross-border e-commercial branch shows the shipment of projectors surged 24 times in Brazil, soccer shoes up 729 percent and national flags up 327 percent in the Middle East and United Arab Emirates.

Jiang Xiaoxiao, consultancy director at CIC said, in recent years, that Chinese companies have eagerly explored the overseas market. Specifically speaking, China's international engineering industry saw rapid growth with a broad connection to the world economy.
