Mainland-phobia bad for Taiwan economy

Recent reports show that a formation of 500-600 drones put up an excellent performance in the skies over Taiwan, which attracted so much attention on the island, that some referred to it as "the light of Taiwan".

It emerged later that "the light of Taiwan" was made on the Chinese mainland. The local company behind the performance had adjusted the angle enough to hide that most important fact. The revelation prompted the ruling Democratic Progressive Party to suddenly require companies to check their imports, even asking for blocking drones that use parts that are manufactured on the mainland.

It seems these politicians lack common sense or any idea about how industry chains work. Given the mainland's status as the world's factory, it is impossible even for the United States, which some DPP politicians worship, to skip parts from the mainland on their iPhones and fighter planes. So just how can Taiwan realize that mission impossible?

With their new order, the DPP politicians are both exposing their ignorance and negative disposition toward the mainland, which is their motherland, too. Some of them are so afraid of their motherland that even a product containing parts made at home triggers their deepest fears. They have a problem in the soul and the mind. This manifests Sinophobia in the West and Mainland-phobia in Taiwan.

By opposing everything that comes from the mainland, the DPP is ruining Taiwan's economy. It is also harming the island's industry chains that have close connections with those of the mainland.

It is time DPP politicians rid themselves of this malaise, not only for their own good but also for the sake of people on the island.
