Country rallied to cause of modernization

The following are key tasks for the construction of a modern socialist country over the next five years, according to the report delivered at the opening of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China on Sunday.

The country should accelerate the formation of a new development pattern and advance high-quality development. There is still a certain gap between China's industrial level and product quality compared with developed countries. Therefore, we should stick to the theme of promoting high-quality development, integrate the strategy of expanding domestic demand with the deepening of supply-side structural reform, enhance the internal driving force and reliability of the domestic circulation, and raise the quality and level of international circulation.

We should further develop the whole-process people's democracy, and ensure that the people are masters of the country. People's democracy is the life of socialism and an essential part of building a modern socialist country in an all-round way. We should improve the system of institutions under which the people can be masters of the country, give rein to the enthusiasm, initiative and creativity of the people, and consolidate and develop a lively, stable and united political situation.

At the same time, we should uphold and promote the rule of law, and carry forward the traditional Chinese virtues, strengthen the construction of family ethics, and improve people's moral awareness.

The country should improve people's well-being and quality of life. Only by delivering more benefits to the people and achieving common prosperity for all can it inspire and mobilize the whole nation to uphold and develop socialism with Chinese characteristics and stay united and true to the cause of building a modern socialist country in an all-round way.

The country should also promote the harmonious coexistence between mankind and nature by promoting green development. Only by accelerating the realization of green development can we peak carbon emissions before 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality before 2060. To achieve these goals, we must accelerate the green transformation of the development mode, implement a comprehensive economizing strategy, develop green and low-carbon industries, advocate green consumption, and promote the formation of green and low-carbon production modes and lifestyles.

China should have a sound and stable development mechanism. Therefore, we need to modernize our national security system and capabilities, firmly safeguard national security and social stability, and ensure a new development landscape with a new security landscape. We should make great efforts to modernize national defense and the armed forces, and improve our strategic ability to safeguard national sovereignty, security and development interests.
