Rolls-Royce looks to net-zero future at CIIE

Rolls-Royce business unit Power Systems has signed products and cooperation agreements with several Chinese customers and partners in multiple industrial sectors at the fourth China International Import Expo in Shanghai.

This is the fourth consecutive time Rolls-Royce has participated in the CIIE and received orders, deepening its cooperation with local customers and demonstrating the group's support for open market and international trade, as well as its confidence in the recovery and continued growth of the China market post-COVID.

"China is the most important growth market for us. As a provider of integrated solutions for power and propulsion, we have built long-term partnerships with Chinese customers in various industries, key to the country's economic growth and infrastructure development," said Eugenia Valente, president of Rolls-Royce Power Solutions Greater China.

"We've also formed joint ventures, established a customer care center and a tech center in China over the years to accelerate our localization. China's commitment is essential to the success of global journey towards decarbonization. We strive to support industrial low-carbon transformation by providing world-class power solutions and living up to our net-zero ambition."

The power systems business of Rolls-Royce has recently completed its brand integration globally, including renaming its subsidiaries in China. As its flagship product, the mtu S4000 engine exhibited at CIIE is the world's first off-highway diesel engine with common rail injection technology.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the engine series. With great popularity among Chinese and global customers, the mtu S4000 is widely used in power generation, mining, marine, rails and other sectors.

Rolls-Royce has formed joint ventures in Yulin, Guangxi and Shanghai with Chinese partners for the local production of mtu S4000 engines and gensets, to better satisfy the growing needs of Chinese customers, especially those from the data center, telecom and semiconductor industries, and to support digital transformation and the new infrastructure development in China.

As a critical part of Rolls-Royce Group's pathway to net-zero, the power systems business is committed to cutting carbon emissions by 35 percent compared to its 2019 level through the development and use of new technologies by 2030. The business is also striving to obtain certification for the mtu engine products to run on sustainable fuels from as early as 2023.

In addition, the sector is actively promoting the development and use of technologies in the fields of microgrid, energy storage, fuel cells and hydrogen, and exploring the possibilities of cooperation with Chinese companies and institutions.
