State Council office calls for probe into legal liability of anti-China groups

The Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council on Sunday called for investigating the legal liability of anti-China groups to restore law and order in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region after the Civil Human Rights Front announced its decision to disband on Sunday.

The office voiced its support in a statement for the law enforcement authorities of the HKSAR in investigating the suspected illegal activities of the group and other anti-China organizations, and severely punished their leaders and key members in accordance with the law.

The office also said it will support the SAR government's efforts to put things right in all areas, root out the "cancer" and "curse", and ensure the steady and long-term implementation of the "one country, two systems" principle.

The Civil Human Rights Front is an unregistered illegal organization. It has colluded with various anti-China forces to fight against the Central Government under the deceptive guise of peace, rationality and non-violence to bring harm to Hong Kong, according to the statement.

The organization directly planned and directed the campaign against the HKSAR government to complete local legislation, according to Article 23 of the Basic Law and colluded with foreign forces to launch a "color revolution" in Hong Kong.

The office said the organization knew its activities had seriously touched the bottom line of the principle of "one country, two systems", violated the National Security Law of Hong Kong and a number of local laws of Hong Kong.

"It was under investigation by the Hong Kong police and had reached the end of the road, so it hastily announced its disbanding and tried to escape legal punishment, which is a wishful thinking," the office said.

"In the time of collapse, the organization still didn't repent. They continued to use 'human rights, democracy and freedom' to deceive people, in a vain attempt to win sympathy and stir up public opinion," it said.

"However, the eyes of the Hong Kong people are clear-sighted and have long seen through its hypocrisy, and sinister and cunning face," it added.
