Intl community urged to safeguard anti-terrorism consensus

Facing rising threats from unconventional security issues, the international community should abandon ideological prejudice and oppose double standards, and firmly safeguard the international consensus on anti-terrorism, said China’s Vice Foreign Minister Luo Zhaohui.

In the context of the coronavirus pandemic and sluggish economic recovery, Luo stressed, a zero-tolerance and nondiscriminatory attitude should be adopted in fighting terrorism no matter what guise it comes under. He made the remarks at the International Seminar on Joint Response to Terrorism, held in Beijing on Dec 22, 2020, an event that saw the participation of dozens of foreign experts and government officials via video calls.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Syromolotov Oleg Vladimirovich, in his video speech, called for the international community to give full play to the anti-terrorism mechanisms within the UN system and multinational organizations to fight against the common enemy of all humans.

Ali Nuaimi, chairman of Hedayah in the United Arab Emirates; Nabeel Muneer, assistant secretary of the Pakistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and Mohamed Fouad Ahmed, Egyptian assistant foreign minister; all condemned the terrorism in any form, and called for concerted efforts to eradicate terrorism across the world.

There is no good or bad terrorism, said Ali Nuaimi, who is a prominent advocate of global peace, tolerance and coexistence, adding that fighting against terrorism is not an option, but a must.

This forum was organized by the China Institute of International Studies (CIIS). Considering the situation, with a nonconventional crisis, Luo proposed making the forum a regular mechanism.
