Born into a poverty-stricken family in the Ningxia Hui autonomous region, Gao drifted to a Beijing at the age of 16.
He tried various jobs to make a living, including shopping guide and security guard before he finally settled on the delivery sector.

After the outbreak of coronavirus, Gao and his wife decided to stay in Beijing rather than return Ningxia.
There's plenty of work, as homebound people count on delivery services more than ever during a quarantine.
