Chinese people will not be intimidated by any threats

The U.S. has signed the so-called Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act of 2019 into law recently regardless of the solemn representations and strong opposition from China.

The U.S. move has seriously interfered in the Hong Kong affairs and the internal affairs of China, and violated the international law and the basic norms governing international relations.

The Chinese government strongly opposes such barefaced hegemony and the Chinese people will not be intimidated by any threats. Any attempt to interfere in China's internal affairs is doomed to fail.

For over five months, radical protesters have committed violent crimes in Hong Kong, trampling on the rule of law and social order, undermining the prosperity and stability of Hong Kong and challenging the "one country, two systems" policy of China.

The rioters have smashed buildings, committed arson, paralyzed the traffic, attacked the police and assaulted innocent citizens, pushing Hong Kong to the edge of an abyss and endangering the basic rights and freedom of Hong Kong residents.

Facts have shown that the anti-China forces in the U.S. have been manipulating the Hong Kong activists from the behind scenes to cause chaos in Hong Kong.

To attain their sinister political goals, the U.S. Congress and some politicians have now even come up on stage without scruple. Under the guise of human rights and democracy, they have made remarks that confused right and wrong and confounded black and white, and viciously created and approved the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act of 2019.

Ignoring stern representations and strong opposition from the Chinese side, the U.S. has now signed the act into law. By blatantly encouraging and backing up violent protesters in Hong Kong, the U.S. has grossly interfered in China's domestic affairs and severely damaged the common and fundamental interests of the majority of Hong Kong compatriots.

The series of evil misdeeds have set the U.S. side against the over seven million Hong Kong residents, the 1.4 billion Chinese people, the principles of justice and righteousness in the world and the basic norms governing international relations.

What the U.S. has done once again exposed its undue double standard and hypocritical hegemony. It has tried to interfere in the internal affairs of China with its domestic law, yet it claimed to support democracy. While ignoring the damage caused by the violent protesters in Hong Kong, the U.S. dares to consider itself defender of human rights.

By beautifying the anti-humanity rioters as pursuing human rights and democracy and fueling the violence and chaos in Hong Kong, the U.S. seeks to undermine Hong Kong's stability and prosperity, sabotage the practice of "one country, two systems" principle, and disrupt the Chinese nation's endeavor to realize the great rejuvenation. Its egregious and malicious nature is seen by all.

We Chinese people do not believe in heresies, neither are we terrified by them; we do not make trouble, neither are we afraid of it. Looking back on the history of the People's Republic of China, the U.S. will find out that external threats do not intimidate the Chinese people and only prompt them to be more united; external pressure can never overwhelm the Chinese nation and will only make it more clear to them the nature of hegemony.

Hong Kong's prosperity and stability, and China's development achievements are not a gift from others, but the outcome of the hard work of the Chinese people.

The U.S. side and a few Hong Kong opposition politicians who follow Washington's lead should not underestimate China's firm determination to defend the prosperity and stability of Hong Kong, the country’s strong will to implement the "one country, two systems" principle, and its ability and measures to safeguard national sovereignty, security and development interests.

The U.S. attempts to interfere in China's internal affairs are bound to fail. Hong Kong is China's Hong Kong and a special administrative region of China. Hong Kong affairs are purely China's internal affairs and the China will not allow any external forces to do whatever they want in Hong Kong.

The Chinese government has unswerving determination to protect national sovereignty, security and development interests, implement the "one country, two systems" policy and oppose any external force in interfering in Hong Kong's affairs.

China will continue to firmly implement the "one country, two systems" principle, support the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) chief executive in leading the HKSAR government to govern in accordance with the law, support Hong Kong police in law enforcement, and support Hong Kong judicial agencies in punishing violent criminals in accordance with the law.

Any tricks that attempt to undermine Hong Kong's prosperity and stability and hinder China's development will never work.

Any external coercion or pressure will not subdue the 1.4 billion Chinese people, including Hong Kong compatriots, and no force can ever hold back the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

No country should assume that China will trade its core interests for benefits, and no one should expect China to swallow the bitter fruit that undermines sovereignty, security and development interests.

China urges the U.S. not to continue going down the wrong path, or it will take effective countermeasures and the U.S. must bear all the consequences.
