Teams for Olympic qualifying confirmed

The 16 spots for next year's FIBA women's Olympic qualifying tournaments have been confirmed following the conclusion of prequalifying events throughout the world.

They are: Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Britain, Canada, China, France, Japan, Mozambique, Nigeria, Puerto Rico, Serbia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden and the United States.

The top six finishers in this year's EuroBasket competition all earned direct qualification.

The 16 teams will contend for 12 Olympic spots next February at tournaments in Belgium (Ostend), China (Foshan), France (Bourges) and Serbia (Belgrade).

2018 World Cup champion the US and 2020 Olympics host Japan will play in the qualification tournaments but will advance to the Tokyo Games regardless of their results.

Shenzhen survives late scare to sink Shanghai

Dwight Buycks had 30 points and 15 assists as the Shenzhen Aviators survived a late wobble to defeat the Shanghai Sharks 130-122 in Sunday's CBA action in Shenzhen.

Shabazz Muhammad added 23 points plus 12 rebounds for the host, while Shanghai's American star James Nunnally scored a game-high 32 points.

Shenzhen had built a 99-82 lead by the end of third quarter but squandered its advantage at the beginning of the fourth. The home side led 120-114 with two and a half minutes on the clock before Buycks and He Xining combined for five crucial points to clinch victory for the Aviators.

"We won the game tonight because we had more rebounds and we did well on fast breaks," Shenzhen coach Wang Jianjun said.

Ronaldo operating 'at reduced capacity'

Cristiano Ronaldo said on Sunday that he is not"100 percent" after reacting angrily to twice being substituted by Juventus coach Maurizio Sarri earlier this month.

The 34-year-old scored his 99th international goal on Sunday as reigning champion Portugal qualified for Euro 2020 with a hard-fought 2-0 win in Luxembourg.

"I wasn't 100 percent and I'm still not," said Ronaldo. "In the last three weeks, I have played at a slightly reduced capacity.

"But when it comes to sacrificing myself for my club and my national team, I do it with pride."

Sarri said Ronaldo had a "little knee problem" after replacing him during Juve's 1-0 win over AC Milan two weekends ago. Media reports said that the five-time Ballon d'Or winner had left the stadium before the end of the match.

"I don't like to be replaced, no one does," added Ronaldo. "I tried to help Juve even when injured."

Pats close on all-time winning-season record

Wide receiver Julian Edelman threw a touchdown pass, Nick Folk kicked three field goals and the visiting New England Patriots scored 17 unanswered points to defeat the Philadelphia Eagles 17-10 on Sunday.

The win clinched the 19th consecutive winning season for the Patriots (9-1), one behind the Dallas Cowboys' all-time record of 20 from 1966-85.

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was 26 of 47 for 216 yards.

Brady's opposite number Carson Wentz was 20 of 40 for 214 yards and a touchdown pass to Dallas Goedert but the Eagles dropped back to 5-5 and had their two-game winning streak snapped.

The Eagles went ahead 10-0 with 12:36 left in the second quarter following a 14-play, 95-yard drive that lasted 9:33.

On the final play, Goedert caught what appeared to be a five-yard touchdown pass from Wentz only for the play to be ruled as an interception as New England's Jonathan Jones took the ball away. Officials reviewed the play and overturned the call on the field, extending Wentz's streak to 13 straight games with a touchdown pass.
