18 suspects in Quanjian case arrested, including founder

Eighteen suspects, including the actual controller of Quanjian Nature Medicine Technology Development Co surnamed Shu, have been arrested, according to the investigation team, Tianjin Daily reported on its WeChat account Monday.

Shu, 51, is also the founder and chairman of Quanjian.

On Jan 1, Tianjin public security authorities launched an investigation into the company, suspected of engaging in a pyramid scheme and false advertising. On Jan 2, the team launched an investigation into a man surnamed Zhu, suspected of illegally practicing medicine at Quanjian (Tianjin) Tumor Hospital.

Zhou Erli, whose daughter died of cancer after taking medicine supplied by Quanjian, told thepaper.cn that he was thrilled to hear the news. He said he would continue to work on prosecution against Quanjian.

Zhou lost his first lawsuit in 2015 shortly before his daughter died. A court dismissed his claim that the company had misled the family over the potency of its anti-cancer treatment and spread false information.
