Journalists on media cooperation in developing economies

In interviews with Chinese media in September, journalists from Pakistan and Sri Lanka shared their views on media cooperation under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, to promote understanding among people in different countries as well as to let the world hear more voices from developing economies.

Makhdoom Babar, president of Daily Mail, Pakistan: TV and film productions bring people closer

Talking with the media in Islamabad, Makhdoom Babar said TV and film productions play an active role in enhancing understanding among people.

"I have an idea to start a BRI TV network which will include all countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative. For example, the network could screen Chinese movies and dramas, dubbed in local languages," Babar suggested.

Meanwhile, he pointed out that media from both China and Pakistan could focus more on stories of ordinary people's lives, such as on people studying and living in each other's countries.

"My daughter was learning new media in China…She wants to do a documentary about young Chinese parents and grandparents raising children together," says Babar, given that it's a common phenomenon in China for grandparents to take care of grandchildren due to the busy working schedule of young Chinese couples.

Babar also emphasized the importance of increasing international coverage from developing countries so that the world will hear more authentic voices from these countries.
