Over half of Chinese singletons looking for partner with matchable wealth
BEIJING -- A total of 54.8 percent of single Chinese of marriageable age are looking for a partner with matchable wealth, according to a survey released by China Youth Daily recently.
Some 37.6 percent of the 1,967 respondents said they value personal abilities while 36.1 percent pay attention to financial conditions when looking for a future partner, the survey said.
Some 85 percent said they will not go against their own will to find future partner, although marriages of young Chinese were usually arranged by their parents in the past.
According to the survey, 57.2 percent of the surveyed agreed that getting married at a later age is the most obvious change in recent years, followed by a larger age gap and matchable abilities between the potential couples.
The respondents are from both urban and rural regions while 46.9 percent are male and 53.1 percent are female, it said.
