Tidal energy project wins Chinese competition

An invention that would reduce the cost of tidal energy was declared the winner of 2nd China Innovation & Entrepreneurship International Competition on Friday.

Cost Effective Tidal Technology, which features a turbine made from a single moving part won the 100,000 yuan ($15,800) prize and the right to join a group of teams from other eight divisions around the world for the Shenzhen finals in April.

Wu Xia, a member of the winning team said she was surprised to win. "Every team has its chance. I believe they all do a good job in their own field that can enhance the quality of our life," she said.

Professor Chu Daping, one of the judges, said, "Compared with last year, projects today are no longer limited in Internet, but also involves technology and experiment."
