Prince Siegfried chances upon a flock of swans while out hunting. One of the swans turns into a beautiful girl and enraptures him. The girl is Odette, who is under a spell and may only regain human form at night. The evil spirit Von Rothbart, arbiter of Odette's curse, disguises his daughter Odile as Odette to win Prince Siegfried's love. Fooled, Siegfried declares Odile as his wife, and Odette is doomed to suffer under the curse forever.
